FRCR Examinations

First FRCR Examination:

The First FRCR Examination expects candidates to have gained a knowledge of the physical principles that underpin diagnostice medical imaging and of the anatomy needed to perform and interpret radiological studies.

The First FRCR Examination comprises two modules: physics and radiological anatomy. All candidates will need to pass both modules in order to pass the examination overall. This applies both to new candidates and to those who have attempted, but not passed, the First FRCR Examination in its previous format (i.e. physics only). Those who have passed the First FRCR Examination in its previous format (i.e. physics only by the Autumn 2009 sitting) do not need to sit the anatomy module.

Final FRCR Examination:

The Final FRCR Examination in Clinical Radiology is in two parts: Part A and Part B. In both parts of the Final Examination for the Fellowship, candidates will be examined on all aspects of clinical radiology.

The Final Part A Examination:
It addresses the basic sciences of physics, anatomy and techniques. The question format for the Final FRCR Part A Examination changed since the Autumn 2009 sitting, when the single best answer (SBA) format of question had replaced the multiple true/false format.

The Final Part B  Examination:
Candidates who have passed all six modules of Final FRCR Part A Examination are permitted to enter Final FRCR Part B Examination once 2½ years of clinical radiology training have been completed.
